Workshop length: 2 hours per week
Minimum group size 8 participants

Objective:

Jazz workshop: Give young musicians the experience of performing various styles of jazz; Swing, Latin, standards. In addition, musicians learn the importance of the rhythm section and the essential tools for better improvisation.

Key Learning section

Jazz basics
1.) Time: Listening to know if you are "on beat"
2.) Articulation: Perfecting attacks and releases
3.) Proper phrasing: Discovering the differences in swing, Latin and modern styles
4.) Homogenize: Playing together and listening to what others are playing
5.) Soloist skills: Interacting with, and showing respect for, other performers

The rhythm section
1.) Integrating the soloists into the rhythm section
2.) Using listening examples to build the rhythm section

Improv
1.) Introduction to the blues and pentatonic scales
2.) Improvising made easy with proven tips and techniques

Putting it all together
1.) Sight singing and rehearse, and record a specially crated chart
2.) Receive a critique of your original work by your workshop facilitator
